Birth Doulas are like your coach and cheerleader that walks along side you during pregnancy, labor and birth. They are hired prenatally and spend time with families (via prenatal appointments) to develop a relationship and to prepare for birth by connecting them with evidence based information and resources.
Birth doulas typically provide continuous support from active labor until up to 2 hours after the baby is born. After the birth, birth doulas keep in touch via phone and text. Then we follow up with a postpartum visit and connect with resources if needed.
We try our best to back each other up with members of the collective, however, there might be times where we have to bring in other doulas that we know and trust to provide backup care.
